My research explores the interdisciplinary character of literary studies and the ways that literature extends into, influences, and refracts multiple spheres of cultural life. Scholarship on Russian modernism, my period of interest, has frequently been delimited by author, movement, genre or medium. In contrast, my goal is to reorganize how we think about cultural production by following the trajectory of a given theme or themes, thereby shifting the angle of observation and with it our insight into fundamental issues of creativity and representation.
The pictures to the left are some of the illustrations from my book entitled The Modernist Masquerade: Stylizing Life, Literature and Costumes in Russia.
